Rainy Season - Bike stopping abruptly

Information is wealth...!!! I believe you all agree with that.

But... wrong information is dangerous and damaging. I believe you're still with me.

No body except God, I believe, can predict when it rains in Bengaluru.  Well, with the sudden outpouring of unexpected rains my bike STRANGELY started stopping on the run. Initially I thought that it would have been due to less petrol or some other cause, but, this scenario started showing up more and more day by day. I brought my bike in 2007 and till now I didn't had this issue until recently. Mine is Bajaj Pulsar 150cc.

Everyday mostly my bike used to get wet in the rain and when I start the bike and drive, it used to go hardly 1.5 to 2 kms without any issue and then suddenly it used to stop. In the mid of the traffic or anywhere irrespective of what ever I try it never used to get started for atleast 10 mins. This was irritating me a lot as I was facing lot many issues quite a bit.

After a couple of months facing this strange problem, I gave the bike for servicing. Once the servicing is done, I felt that the problem is finally gone, but again to my surprise I had the same issue. Now when I took the bike to the same mechanic he told me that it could have been due to the water going on in the plug inside. Then when we finally opened it was dry. Then he generated a statement telling that "when the bike is wet in the Rain water and is having the problem, at that time only if I bring that bike to him (by dragging since it wont be starting) he can see to the issue. This has caused a lot of frustation mixed with great concern for the issue. I tried couple of times by making it wet in the rain and then dragging to him, but unluckily when ever he was testing it used to run smoothly. So, finally unable to bear my complaints he told me that the spark plug has an issue and he changed the spark plug. Then i thought that my happy days have come back once again, but to my unlucky luck, the same issue was still persisting.

I got so fed up that I searched most of the blogs and did all the r&d I could, but to no luck. Then one day with the same issue when I started for office, the bike got stopped 7 times within 1 km distance. Then after some distance it got completely dead. I was so frustated with the bike, but then, luckily (now my luck was indeed favoring me) I found a small mechanic shop nearby the place where my bike was dead. When I went to that shop, it was so small, that I hardly thought that they can fix my bikes problem.

The moment I told the guy the problem, he instantly opened the petrol tank and showed me a small hole and told me that the whole issue is because the hole is jammed (closed with dust). I couldnt believe what he said. Then he told me that since this was the issue there would be water in the petrol tank mixed with petrol which is causing the whole nonsense. To prove me, he disconnected the petrol wire to the engine and took the petrol in a bottle and to my surprise I could see, very clearly, water fluctuating in the petrol.

Ah....!!!! Thats it!!!! Got the solution for my unanswered frustating problem which I've been facing from ages.

Then he told me that I need to give the bike for servicing. I instantly without hesitation gave him the bike for servicing and he dropped me to my office. When I came back in the evening, I couldnt believe the way he has done servicing. Count me, I was under wrong impression that small mechanic shops won't be doing good, but he marvelled me on this.

Now, guys, after so many days of servicing, even my bike, getting wet in rain, is running smoothly and with no issues. This is the common problem with most of the Bajaj Pulsar bikes.

Happy Riding...!!!

Invertor - Power backup

I was thinking from long time to have an Invertor at home, since we experience power cuts, especially in my street, with my line, more than anyone else in Bangalore, as far as i guess.

After so many sleepless nights with my ... mosquitoes I was so tired that I thought would spend any amount to have an Invertor @ home.  Usually the power goes in the midnight and I wake up abruptly, then spending the rest of the time full of frustation and cursing the power station in all the possible languages that I can think of. So, rather than this semi adventorous ride, I thought to have a backup which makes life easier in those midnight stands.

I basically being a Scorpio (sun sign) do lot of research before jumping to buy any product. So, when I decided that I need to buy an invertor (after 2 long years), then I spent rest of 2 month doing research what to buy and what not. Initially I was confused between UPS and Invertor. Then I found the difference that UPS is for shorter span, which throws pure Sine wave, especially usefull for Computers, where there shouldn't be even a fraction of a second of gap between the power off time and the UPS power generation time, but when we come to Invertors, there is a known fraction of second gap which is perfectly fine as this is mostly used for house hold things.  But, due to the advancement in technology we can even see the Invertors trying to cope with the UPS factor of power re-generation at those fractions of second.

How to decide What to buy?  This became the biggest question for me then. Well, then I started with my usual research of asking people, calling justdial and getting few phone numbers and doing enquiry and surfing in net and lot other stuff. Finally after lot of research I found the following precious information.

1) What all things are required? - An Invertor, A battery (which stores the power & acts as a backup) and an Invertor stand(optional)

2) An Invertor - There are many brands of invertors, but the biggest question was what power of Invertor should be purchased. For this you need to calculate the total output Wattage of the electrical appliances in your home, for which you would like to give backup and depending on that the invertor should be chosen. For example,
     a) 1 Fan - 110 watts
     b) 1 Tubelight - 45 watts
     c) 1 CFL (bulb) - 25 watts and so on...
So calculate as to how many things you would like to get backed up and sum all of them. What ever I've mentioned above with the wattages are approximate. So, for me I would require 2 fans, 4 lights essentially. Now, if there no usage of 2 lights and 1 fan, I can use them to turn on my TV which requires more wattage.

Finally, when you sum everything and come to a desired number, the invertor that you take, should have 80% wattage matched with the sum that you've arrived. So, for example, if your total sum came to 800 watts, then your invertor capactiy should be 1000watts (1Kw).  Remember, that always the Invertor gives you 80% of the total capactiy of its output.

3) A Battery - I was literally crazy to decide on this.  My main concern was which capacity to take. Basically it starts from 100ah and goes up. Now again in this we have two kinds called "Semi-tubular" and "Tubular".  After doing lot of research I found that as the ah increases the more backup time you get. So, I decided to take 135ah Exide Battery, even though 100ah is minimum requirement.  Mine is Semi tubular battery and the basic difference between this and Tubular is the number of years of warranty as well as the make.  Tubular is SMF (Sealed Maintenance Free) but has poor performance but long life and for semi its vice versa.

4) A Trolley - This is optional which you'll get, but if you prefer for high end batteries, they won't fit in the trolley.

So, finally following is the configuration which I've chosen for my 1BHK house, wherein I require backup for all the bulbs and fans basically.

875watts Invertor - Microtek
135ah Battery - Exide
1 Trolley

and the total costed me around Rs.16,300/- after lot of bargain and bargain and bargain.... This is the lowest best price that we can ever get for the above configuration with 2 years of free service.

Happy Lighting...!!!

Sharing and Caring

When I was coming from my hometown back to Bengaluru travelling in 2 tier in Seshadri Express, I encountered a person who works in the railway department and was travelling with me till Vijayawada.  Since they have pass he got into 2 tier and then came and sat before me. As the people occupying my adjacent seats would board the train in Vijayawada (I knew from the Chart list displayed), he too knew the same fact from the TC and then came and sat before me.

I started listening to music and was going to start reading the book "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus" he was very curious to see that book.  By the way, this book is very good for couple where it throws more light on to understand the relationships better. More on this I may post in the coming future.

Then I started conversing with him and found that he's a Senior Supervisor and he came to my hometown to supervise the Engine repairs. Soon we started having a healthy conversation. He started talking about the relationships and how to guard them. Then he started telling about the wonderful gift of SHARING & CARING.

He tells that most of the time, people always either are centric thiking of themselves or just for their families but care least for the others.  There are many occasions like travelling in trains, buses or when visiting new places or in offices and at homes, we have numerous occasions to interact with people and get to know about things. But, most of the time now-a-days we are just busy with only one thing, MOBILE. This technology has given us lot of benefits of communication but at the same time also made us more centric and all the time we see that people in any state are just medling with their mobiles.  Before this came into our life, atleast we had time to talk to others and share the things. I felt so true when he was telling all these things.  He also tells how small small things when shared could increase the love and fellowship in the family and in the society and caring increases and the bonds become more stronger. Like buying a rose for your beloved or a small suprise gift for the parents or a caring call to our relatives could make things more better.

He also added that people should be more pure and chaste in their lives which makes the family relationship more stronger. Then we started discussing about the cancer of our current society, which is, my dear friends, Bribe.  After so many days, I really felt so happy meeting such a person, who had wonderful thinking and ideas and ideals which makes me think that how could be grab all the concepts of the Bahai faith (www.bahai.org) which talks even the same things, but even at a more higher perspective.

Then after sometime he went to sleep and I thought that once he wakes up I could take his number, but, alas, then I slept and in the midnight he got down in Vijayawada junction. I felt so bad that I could get his contact details and I missed the friendship of such a wonderful person.

I think that there are so many wonderful things that we can do in life and the more we do them for others the more we get real happiness.  Life is just not to live for us but to live for others.  This is what which makes the life more beautiful and memorable, even after we leave this mortal world.

Happy Journey...!!!
